At Strata, we recognise that one of the most valuable ways we can create social value is by sharing the expertise that already exists across our business. Our work experience placements demonstrate how colleagues from different disciplines can work together to inspire young people and provide a meaningful introduction to careers in homebuilding.
Over the course of the week, eight members of staff gave their time to support several young people, offering an insight into the full development journey, from early-stage land and planning decisions to engineering, construction technology and delivery on site.
Preston spent time with our Land, Planning and Engineering teams, learning how potential developments are identified, assessed and designed. He gained an understanding of the detailed thinking and collaborative problem-solving that takes place before construction begins. Later in the week, Preston was joined by Felix to explore the use of drones and experience site-based activity, demonstrating how technology and practical delivery come together within modern housebuilding.
In partnership with Arnold Jobcentre, Finlay joined our Production team at our Grace development. His placement provided a first-hand view of daily life on a live development and the coordination, communication and teamwork needed to build high-quality homes safely and efficiently.
By experiencing several departments and speaking directly with construction professionals, the participants were able to see that the industry offers far more than the roles traditionally associated with a building site. The placements highlighted career pathways across land acquisition, planning, engineering, production and emerging technology, helping young people connect their individual skills and interests with genuine employment opportunities.

The initiative also demonstrated the difference our own people can make. By giving their time, sharing their career journeys and explaining their work, colleagues transformed their everyday professional knowledge into an engaging learning experience.
